Quilted Kitty

I haven't been entering contests lately.  I have so much fabric and too many UFOs.  I saw on Facebook that Quilted Kitty was having a Halloween give away of some Henry Glass fabrics, so of course I entered.  I was a lucky winner!

 I love the little quilted kitty that is their mascot along with their many real cats, Wally, Opie, Molly  and Olivia.    I have subscribed to their newsletter for years.  They stock many different fabrics with cats on them.  I've never been lucky enough to visit their shop--I'd like to some day.

 
I received 1 yard of Delightfully Frightful by Debbie Taylor.  What a cute print!

 There were also 2 half yard cuts.  The spiders and webs are Debbie Taylor too.  The pumpkins are Frank-N-Friends by Barbara Jones.   Thank you Quilted Kitty for the fun fabrics!!!!  If you go to the link, you will see these fabrics are on sale right now.

I thought I would make a table runner for the kitchen table.   Well, it seems I can't find the bright pumpkin fabric.  I have looked high and low!  Has that ever happened to you?  I'm sure it will show up, but it has been a frustrating afternoon of looking for it.  It's got to be under something!  I thought all three pieces of fabric were together on the table.  I'm giving up for tonight!!

Here are a few of my cats.  They look a little startled to have their pictures taken.

I would love to get my hands on this pretty Siamese.  He is very timid and not one bit trusting of the one who feeds him.  We haven't had a Siamese cat on the farm for 15 years.  I'm not sure if he is a throw back from the gene pool or what.  His siblings are all black.   He is the prettiest colors.

I'll be back to show you what I finally did sew today.

Country Quiet--Not!

I'm not sure how this post will turn out.  I've had issues with blogger.  I wanted to let you know that it isn't always quiet in the country, especially this time of year.  The video is mostly for sound value.  If you turn it up loud you should be able to hear the thousands of black birds that are here in the slew just south of our house.

If you click on this picture you can better see them flying in flocks. In the morning at sunrise and in the evenings  toward sunset the noise is unreal as thousands of birds head to their home base to sleep through the night--although they talk all night too.  During the day the noise is not as loud.  The black birds are out eating  from our sunflower and corn fields.  We are hoping that they leave us some to harvest. 

I fused a couple more blocks yesterday afternoon.  This turkey was fun to do.

Here are three brown cows. 

I spent part of the day looking through the stash in the closet for the material I was sure I had for sashing and borders.  I'm not  to that point yet.  I wanted to get it out, so I could decide on colors for the pieced blocks.  The animal blocks have alot of browns, so I want to make the pieced blocks from more reds, yellows, blues or greens.   I ended up looking through my Christmas fabric tub.  I love Christmas fabrics.  I touched, felt and refolded each piece.  lol  At least now I know what I have in that tub.  I'm still looking for that sashing material.  Fabric in tubs isn't really a very good storage method.   There are two more tubs in the back of the closet--it might be easier to buy fabric.  :)  

By popular demand--a cat picture.  Two of Peanuts kids hanging out together. 

Rocco's eye is still in the healing process.  We do eye drops and ointment twice a day.  We are encouraged that he seems to have some eye sight in his injured eye--at least reacting to movement on that side.  We have been having beautiful, sunny and warm Indian summer days this week.  Rocco has spent all day outside playing with the kittens.

 I'm not sure what is happening this afternoon.  DH took lunch to the hay field with him and I thought I would have the whole afternoon to sew, but it is raining out now.  I know that will put an end to his plans, so I know mine will change too.  Have a great week-end!!

100 followers/giveaway

I broke 100--followers that is!!  So it's time for a giveaway.  There are so many going on, but I'm not waiting to have mine.  I'm giving away 2 quilt kits from Fabric Cafe.    The first one is titled Full Bloom.  It has 3 yards of material and a Pin Wheel pattern.  It is spring somewhere in blogland.

I had so much fun last night at Quilter's Corner.  We shopped, sewed, gabbed, ate, sewed, shopped and talked some more.   The twister is a cool new ruler.  The class was to make a table runner using charm squares and the ruler.    You sew the charms together and then use the ruler to cut new squares and sew them together to make blocks that look like pin wheels.  Very cute. 

BUT  I saw the cutest little purse made with charm squares.  I've made runners for myself and for gifts, but I've never made a "bag".  I've always wanted to, but just never jumped in and did it on my own.  The owner of the shop, Lori is such a honey.  She said "You can make the purse if you'd rather". I didn't want to be a pain, but she was so nice and I really did want to make the purse.

Isn't it the cutest thing?  Just a nice size.  I used Moda's Vine Creek charm squares.  It uses 17 charms for one bag, so I have enough charms to make a second one.  

This is the other side (not the other bag).  It was fun and easy.  I learned how to sew on the handles and add a magnetic closure too.  There are 4 pockets inside.  I really like it! 

 

Now I can share this with the other ladies at quilting group that didn't get to come or made the twister runner.  I bought interfacing and handles for a second bag.  My sister's birthday is in November, so I think this might be her gift.  I'll have to see what she comments on facebook after I put the photos up on there. 

I can't believe how time with fellow quilters can give me such a positive energy.  I am bursting with creative ideas.  I could hardly go to sleep last night--it might have been the diet Coke, tho.  lol

I never dreamed I'd have 100 followers in less than a year's time.  I'm sure not all 100 of you stop and read every time, but it fun to know that others have enjoyed by blog.  I have sure enjoyed getting to see your world and your quilt projects.  I hope you get to spend some time doing something you love today.

Thank yous!

I was on a lucky streak there for a while.  I had happy mail again today.  Two presents--just so pretty.  I was pretty excited too.  I don't get gift wrapped things very often.  :)

The pretty package with the yellow ribbon is from Razzy.  She had a give away for her birthday.

I received two lovely stitching patterns.  I think this little cushion will make a nice "little something something"gift for a friend's birthday.  It's so cute.  The Rosalie Quinlan design was a nice little bonus pattern.

Razzy made one of those zipper bags I've been wanting to try.   I love butterflies and this fq is lovely.  This flower pin is soooo coool.  I'll wear it on my jacket this fall. 

I love this little crocheted flower. I'm going to have to make something to stitch it to.  Isn't it the cutest thing?

Yesterday afternoon DD #1 showed up unexpectedly.  She had the day off and came home to visit us.  It was a nice surprise and we went over to the neighbors to say "hi" to her Dad too.  There were severe thunderstorms last night.  Lots of lightning and thunder!  The wind blew like crazy.  We got .62 of rain.

Once again there was damage in other places due to the wind. 

This morning was spent cleaning and doing laundry--does that ever get all done?   I spent most of this afternoon catching up on bills, farm bookkeeping and filing.  :(   Rocco and I took a quick trip to the little Post Office 15 miles away, so we could send some money to the bank.  We picked up the mail on the way back and that's when the day got better!

No Sewing: Giveaways and Voting for a GO

No sewing here.  Just a quick update before I waterproof the deck and do some yard work.    First I want to share with you the 100th post of Marilyn's Maze and of course she is having a giveaway of some wonderful fabric that is already pre-cut.  Yummy!  Happy Blog Anniversary to you!

I also wanted to let you know about a give away Jane's Fabric's is having.  It is her 400th post and a big 2 year anniversary.  She is having a week long celebration.

We have been getting yards and pastures ready.  I took a few photos of the natural prairie for you.  This is north of our place in what we call the "big pasture".  It is the summer home for most of our herd.  We have had a lot of rain and the grass is the tallest I've ever seen it.  There is also water in more places than I've ever seen.  It is a beautiful place.  It wasn't a sunny day for me tho--kind of overcast skies.

I wish I was more of an expert, but I can't tell you the names of these plants.  I just love the natural growth of it all.  I am looking forward to getting the cattle worked and moved.  We will still need to check on them daily to make sure they are staying in their beautiful home, but I will have more time to myself starting next week.  Hopefully, this time can be used to do some sewing, besides gardening and yard work.

There were so many nice comments I had to answer some of them.  I started blogging for the fun of it and to mainly to join the quilting community of bloggers.  I have enjoyed it so much and you have encouraged me through the last 2 busy months.  Sometimes calving season can be somewhat of a downer, but this year making new friends really gave me something to look forward to.  I'm happy to share our wide open spaces too.  It has been fun to visit your states and countries.  I love the recipes, family sharing and especially the quilting.

I received "happy" mail today.  I won a  paper piecing kit from Kathy's Quilts.   Kathy had her 500th post anniversary around Mother's Day.  She had a giveaway to celebrate.  She gave away a variety of lovely prizes and I won one.  Please click on the photo to see the pretty card she included.  The fabrics are wonderful fall colors to paper piece some fall leaves.  We were married in October and used fall colors to decorate with.  I've always liked the colors of fall, especially gold and rust.  I have lots of fall fabrics too. 

Have you ever paper pieced?  I took a class 2 years ago.  I really learned alot and finished the paper piecing of the project, but I need to get it back out, because I am still taking paper off the back.  It is a very pretty table covering in batiks.  I haven't done any paper piecing since.  This little kit will be a fun project.  Thanks, Kathy and congratulations on 500 posts!

I Love Jenny!

I love Jenny of Elefantz patterns.  I am doing her free BOM Bouquet.  BUT now she has designed a really wonderful pattern for a Christmas Quilt called The Christmas Story.  It has such lovely stitchery.  I love the manger block.  So sweet.  She is having a giveaway for the pattern and some of the fabric she used.  I want extra chances to win, so I am blogging about it here, so you can check it out.  IF you mention my name in your comment, I could win a pattern.  Don't you just love this fabric--Robyn Pandolph's "Roses de Noel".
